The goal of this project is to fix issues and bring some minor functionality adjustments to the original Asus firmware. While some features do get added, this is not the main focus of this project.
The hardware WPS button method of clearing nvram on the RT-AC66U works correctly up to version r26339. In later versions, the WPS method clears the 5GHz Wi-Fi radio to "2.4 GHz TurboQAM". This can be remedied by flashing r26339 on the unit and again clearing nvram before upgrading to a later release. ASUS RT-AC66U B1 is a ultra-fast 802.11ac Wi-Fi router with a combined dual-band data rate of 1.75Gbps, currently the fastest available, utilizing the Broadcom 802.11ac Wi-Fi controller and working in 2.4GHz and 5GHz. If you only need 10-15MBit/s then the RT-AC66U is fine. As far as firmware goes, Asus-Merlin has the best performance from my experience, Shibby Tomato has the most options, although most of the missing stuff in Asus-Merlin you can do with scripts and CLI.
